How to successfully take a backup and then restore from an existing file?
Please advise all our customers to take a full back-up before asking them to perform a factory reset.
1. To back-up the device, go to Settings > About Phone > Backup & Restore > Computer and follow on-screen instructions.
2. The local backup file created in the device can be found in Internal Storage >MIUI > Backup.
Please note that media files will not be backed up in this step.
With Android 6.0 and above, the local backup stored in the device will also be erased after a factory reset. To avoid loss of data, please advise the customer to save the contents of the backup onto an external storage device (Laptop, PC or USB storage).
3. Save the contents of this folder onto an external storage device.
4. To reset your device completely, go to Settings >About Phone> Factory Reset > Erase all data, and follow the On-screen instructions
5. Please enter the password of the Mi account that is currently signed into if it asks.
