How to resolve heating issue in you MI/Redmi laptop?

 



 Information: Below are few reasons which may have caused the Laptop to heat.

  • Prolonged usage of Laptop or not turning off the laptop when not in use.
  • Leaving the laptop connected to the power adaptor continuously after the battery is fully charged.
  • Multiple unused apps/tasks running in the background.
  • Playing Video Games or Online Games.
  • Vents were not cleaned for a longer period of time.
  • Using near a heat source or in a hot environment (including direct sunlight)
  • Malicious software/Adware running on the system

Probing:

  1. Check if the Windows is updated to the latest version.
  2. Check if the issue occurred after a recent installation of software or update
  3. Check if the vents of the laptop are blocked by dust
  4. Check if the user had been playing games for a longer time on the laptop
  5. Check if multiple apps or tasks are running in the background
  6. Check if the laptop was being used for a longer duration
  7. While CPU/Memory/Disk utilization is high, check if the fan is rotating or not

 

Troubleshooting:

  1. Check if there’s any update available. If yes, download and install the latest software available on 
  2. your Mi Notebook.
  3. Open task manager (Ctrl+ Alt+ Del and select Task Manager). Identify which application is consuming more % and close the application.

Note: It is recommended to close applications which are not in use.

  1. a) Update the battery drivers:

Go to Device manager > Batteries > Microsoft AC adapter > Update driver 

Go to Device manager > Batteries > Microsoft ACPI-Complaint control Method Battery > Update driver 

Note: It is recommended to update the drivers frequently.

b) Run the battery troubleshooter

Go to Start > Settings > Troubleshoot > Power > Run the troubleshooter

  1. Turn on the Real-time protection. To turn on Microsoft Defender Antivirus in Windows Security, go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection. Then, select Manage settings (or Virus & threat protection settings.
  2. While CPU/Memory/Disk utilization is high, check if the fan is rotating or not. If the fan is not rotating, your Laptop may require a service.
  3. If the issue occurred after a recent software installation, kindly update the application or uninstall the app if it is no longer required by going to control panel.
  4. Use canned compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis. This will remove accumulated dust, hair etc. from the vents, allowing the fan to remove the heat.
  5. Periodically disconnect the notebook's AC adapter from the power socket when not in use or when the battery is fully charged.
  6. After performing the above steps, restart your laptop and observe if the issue persists, walk in to the nearest service center along with the invoice copy.

 

Recommendations:

1. Using a laptop cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance. Laptop cooling pads generally utilize fans that supplement the system fans and ensure optimal airflow is maintained

2. Avoid placing your laptop over your sheets and blankets.
