How to resolve if touch panel is not working in MI/Redmi/Poco ?

 Steps to be followed if the touch panel is not working in MIUI devices

What should one do if the touch panel is not working?

Solution:

1. Please reboot the phone once to check if it helps. If options on the screen cannot be selected, perform a hard reboot by long pressing the power button for a few seconds until it reboots.

1. Check if the phone has any tempered glass or screen protector. Advise to remove it and see if the touchscreen is working.

2. Ask if the customer is using any gloves, as display will be non-responsive in such cases.

3. If hands are wet, touch screen will be non-responsive.

4. Certain non-Xiaomi chargers / cables when connected can make the screen non-responsive or frozen due to current leak. This can also happen when the wall socket has not been grounded properly. Check if this problem is observed only when charger / cable is connected. If this is the case, ask customer to charge using a Xiaomi original charger & cable &/or on a different wall socket.

5. Perform hardware test after step 4 and check if the test is successful.

6. If the hardware test fails, ask the customer to visit a service centre nearby and advise to take a full back up before visiting the Service centre.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Hardware test:

  1. Open dialler>>Type *#*#6484#*#*>>tap on Touch panel>>check both cross calibration and Touch panel calibration

Backup:

  1. Settings>>About Phone>>Backup and reset>>Local Backup>>Tap on backup>>Select All >>Back up

With Android 6.0 and above, the local backup stored in the device will also be erased after a factory reset. To avoid loss of data, please advise the customer to save the contents of the backup onto an external storage device( Laptop, PC or USB storage).

  1. Save the contents of this folder onto an external storage device.

  2. To factory reset it, go to Settings > About Phone> Backup & reset > Erase all data(Factory reset)>Reset Phone

  3. Please enter the lock screen password (If already added)

  4. Please enter the password of the Mi account that is currently signed into.

 

 

To use the backup feature:

1. Copy and paste the backup contents saved on the external storage device back onto Internal Storage >MIUI > Backup folder>All Backup

2. Open Settings >About Phone > Backup & reset > Local backup>Back up

3. Select the saved backup and click on restore.

 

How to perform Hardware test is shown below: 

1.After dialing the code- *#*#6484#*#*, below mentioned menu will pop up on the display 

2.Tap on Touch panel>>check both cross calibration and Touch panel calibration
